Afraid Of Injections? - Cost Effective Painless Injections Are Here

Painless-injection-microneedle

If you are the one haunted by thought of getting an injection from the doctor or more worst, a diabetic patient, here is a good news for you.

A group of researchers from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, developed needles that are less than 1 mm in size. It can be used to administer drug painlessly into one's body.

Its Development:

The group fabricated a hollow Carbon microneedle array with flow channels using a conventional C-MEMS process.
The needles were initially developed from SU-8, which is a photosensitive polymer, in the year 2018 but were brittle and non-biocompatible. To overcome this, they were modified by a process of pyrolysis. It resulted in glassy carbon needles which were almost 300 times stronger than the originals. Being made of carbon, they were also biocompatible. Pyrolysis at 900 degree Celsius for around 60 minutes eliminated most of Nitrogen and Oxygen in the polymer.

Microneedle array was inserted into Mouse skin and withdrawn to examine the mechanical interaction of the microneedles with skin. It was found that the microneedles remain intact after retraction over multiple cycles when penetrated through the skin of the animal.

Future perspectives:

The team is now working on the development of controlled Drug Delivery System including micropumps, a drug reservoir, and microneedles with the aim of developing a cost effective system to deliver drugs to the patient in painless and precise manner.
This will particularly be helpful for diabetic patients while administering insulin on a regular basis. Though it doesn't cut the rates of insulin but can decrease the device price by almost 50%.

Can Rahul Gandhi's resignation revive the Congress Party?

About 8.3 crores new voter voted in the last Lok Sabha elections, myself being one among them. So, as far as I learnt and know about the recent past of the Congress party, I would say it would be hard.. very hard for resuscitating the party once again considering Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as well. Rahul Gandhi has been the President of the party since quite some years, but now he finally decided to step down after his resignation letter was turned down by the working committee some months back. The party has just lost its charms. With all those allegations of scam on several top class leaders of the party, and less or no improvement in the grass root level workers, have even deteriorated the places which were known to be the stronghold of Congress. The recent defeat of Rahul Gandhi in the hands of Smriti Irani indicates the same. There were several states where congress’s list remained null in the elections for Lok Sabha 2019. On the other hand, what I have seen in the case of...

Blaming The EVM - A Stressbuster For The Losing Side?

Blaming others on one's own defeat has always been the very nature of human beings since time immemorial. Most of us feel comfortable blaming others for our failures rather than introspecting ourselves about the reasons for the plight. Despite this being an inherent behaviour of human beings, it might cause severe repercussions if dragged into the World's Largest Democracy. General elections for 543 seats in the Lower House (Lok Sabha) is on the doorsteps of every Indian. It is a several week long (not any less than a festival) occasion in which every individual crossing the age of 18 years will celebrate his/her voting rights. One vote each from an eligible voter will decide the future of the country for next 5 years. While the political parties are trying their best spending several thousands Indian Rupees to advertise and campaign in their favour, the major chunk of young voters are analysing the correct choice these days to not let their supreme power go in vain. ...

Reservation For General Category - What Is All The Fuss About?

The Modi government has recently passed the Bill citing 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections of general category on 9th of January, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha as well with 165 voting in its favor. Now, this has almost (awaiting final nod from the President of India) guaranteed amendment of certain acts in the Constitution of India, after which, its full potential can be exploited. The Bill will undoubtedly be helpful for a certain portion of population, but what is being questioned by everyone is its introduction timing and the political motive behind it. How will it help? Since a long time, demands were being raised for providing reservations to the poorer sections of the population that belongs to general category. Finally, a Bill has been passed granting the same. This seem to be a very positive sign as far as providing opportunity to the poors of a certain category are concerned.  The one who is not enjoying any benefits of caste-based reservation sy...
