Dear 17th Prime Minister ... [1/2]

General elections in India are approaching closer by each passing day. Indians are exercising the adult suffrage since 1951 for electing representatives to the Lok Sabha. Through all these years, we have witnessed rise and fall of several governmental terms and slower yet constant rise in developmental curve of India.

India, being the largest democracy and second most populous country in the world, is diverse yet united since its existence. As of now, more than 60% of its population is under the age of 35 years (i.e. young Indian population); it is obvious to have some issues that are somewhat different (I agree, most of the issues will coincide) from those belonging to the rest ~40% considering all the technological improvements in the country since independence.

Votes cast by the young Indian population can play deciding role in the upcoming elections. It should also be noted that the use of conventional technique of political gimmick will not be effective in fetching a major portion of the votes from this section of population. With a new batch of 15 million new voters that are expected to vote this year; I myself being one of them, will try to note down some things (which I believe, everyone will agree) on behalf of the young population of this country, upon which I will want the next government in general and my dear Prime Minister in particular to take a deeper look into.

Quality Education

Solution to every problem on earth boils down to one simple thing - "Education". India has always been known for great mathematicians, scientists, philosophers, spiritualists etc. This was largely due to the Vedic education system that prevailed in ancient days. With introduction of Right to Education for every child aged 6 - 14 years, need for quality education has been in a constant rise. As time passed, various reforms were seen in the system of providing knowledge to people of this country. But teachers and the system itself are mostly blamed for inability of students in acquiring hands-on knowledge.

Proper training camps for the teachers apart from what is done till now are required to improve the quality of education. Moreover, making learning a fun process by introducing new teaching methodologies rather than being just a rat-race for grades will definitely help in overall well-being of a student and enforcing minimum of 75% attendance in colleges will no longer be required :) Also, children in schools will witness an overall boost in their mental health with physical health supported by schemes like mid-day meal.

Reduction of Unemployment

This has been a major problem in India since long. Recent increase in unemployment rate to 6.10% from 3.52% in 2017 has caused a huge outrage against the policies of the government. The overall development of a country is the summation of socio-economic status of the citizens. Due to rapid increase in population and other factors like unemployability of college graduates due to lack of skills make it even harder to tackle this ever rising menace. These give rise to more serious repercussions with youth having low self esteem joining the extremist organisations just to earn a living.

Changing the mindset of youth by encouraging them in becoming job creators rather than job seekers will help in this regard in long run. More programmes like Startup India are required in order to meet the current needs. Furthermore, Make in India programme has definitely helped in creating employment for the youth. It should also be noted that schemes like Skill India and Scheme for Higher Education Youth in Apprenticeship and Skills (SHREYAS) which is launched very recently by Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of MHRD, will also help in developing required skills by candidates in upcoming years. More of such projects should be undertaken by the future government as well.

Tackling Corruption

Utilization of limited resources in the country should be co-ordinated and executed efficiently. Unfortunately, we have been living in a surrounding since long where it becomes hard to get a job done without paying a definite percentage underneath the table. Services provided by the government should be made transparent to minimise the effect of middlemen.

Information Technology has been constantly growing in this country and its benefits should be reaped by the authorities as well. Digitalizing every governmental process and keeping track of each transaction will surely be a small yet effective measure to tackle corruption. Much of the government services related to Driving Licence, Passport, PAN card etc. have been made online and the things have become quite easy and convenient for anyone. Lot of advancements were seen in this field with programmes like Digital India whose core aim was to set up a proper infrastructure for e-Governance and implementation of the same of which a wholesome of the objectives have been achieved till date. We can only expect and afford a permanent growth in this sector in years to come.

Expectations are huge, for a growing country like ours. And most certainly, there are many other segments where we, the citizens, want more accountability from the government. This blog is a part of a series of blogs I will write on what we want our government to prioritize their attention on. The next blog will be up soon.

Can Rahul Gandhi's resignation revive the Congress Party?

About 8.3 crores new voter voted in the last Lok Sabha elections, myself being one among them. So, as far as I learnt and know about the recent past of the Congress party, I would say it would be hard.. very hard for resuscitating the party once again considering Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as well. Rahul Gandhi has been the President of the party since quite some years, but now he finally decided to step down after his resignation letter was turned down by the working committee some months back. The party has just lost its charms. With all those allegations of scam on several top class leaders of the party, and less or no improvement in the grass root level workers, have even deteriorated the places which were known to be the stronghold of Congress. The recent defeat of Rahul Gandhi in the hands of Smriti Irani indicates the same. There were several states where congress’s list remained null in the elections for Lok Sabha 2019. On the other hand, what I have seen in the case of...

Role of Media in the Formation of a Sound and Healthy Society

The world of journalism has long been referred to as, ‘the media’ in the context of books and newspapers i.e. print media in the early days, but with the advent of technology, media now encompasses television, movies, radio and internet. The media plays a pivotal role in proper functioning of a democracy and also influences strongly in shaping a public opinion. The oppressed can hold grounds and fight their way out by making proper use of the media. It is considered the 4 th pillar of a democracy and rightly so, since it helps in upholding the truth time and again. The role of the media in the formation of a sound and healthy society, as such, cannot be underrated. From the beginning of civilization, media has remained a very important part. Yes, it is true that its shape has changed since the past due to technological advancements and other such factors, but nonetheless, its functioning remains the same. From the days of emperors and kings when decrees were accompanied by s...

Dire need for Chandrayaan - 2 in a developing country like India: An Opinion

CV Raman, APJ Abdul Kalam, Homi Bhaba, Ramanujan, Satyendra Nath Bose… and the list goes on. Do I need to introduce them? - I suppose not. So, what was the need that arose alongside them which made all of them work so hard and eventually succeed in their respective time periods? If you consider the time during which they were alive, most of the people in the country were trying to survive and not thrive. Those were some of the people who rose from the ground, yet never left their roots and worked towards the upliftment of the lives of people in general and India in particular. Yeah, India was looted by several organisations and invaders for several thousand years before finally being left devastated under the British Rule. After many a thousands sacrifices, we were finally able  to free ourselves out from their clutches. Afterwards, India was left with very little natural resources and the economy went on to become an agrarian one. Industrialization has been too slow. Addi...
